About Myself:
I moved to the US from Bhutan in the summer of 2013. Being new to the country, I was lost in paradise because of the vast amount of opportunities that laid before me. I was always interested in animations and graphics, but I never really dedicated myself to the craft (no pun intended). After moving to the States, I first started to pursue Information Technology (IT) in the hopes that I would be able to make something out of it as a career. I blindly moved with this idea until I was into my third year in college. The story of my UI/UX career only began then.
How I Started UX/UI:
I was first introduced to the UX/UI field through my Google feed while on my way to college on the F train of the NYC subway. At the time, I was reading about UI/UX as a mere hobby and getting awed at the works created by some designers. I was studying Computer Network Security at New York City College of Technology (NYCCT/City Tech), but at some point I realized I wanted to pursue something else and that the path I was currently following wasn't the right one for me.
With the help of my mother's support I was able to give Visual Design a chance at General Assembly and since then I have been very fond of being able to create while feeding my creativity. For this very reason, I am ever so grateful for my mother's love and support.
I started off this career by just reading articles about UI/UX to now fully engaging myself into the field. Being able to use my creativity and to be able to produce design for everybody was what I was missing in my previous career. This was a realization that took me quite some time to grasp.
Through different institutions, I have been able to learn so much and I have been improving not only my skills, but also myself as a designer. I have come to enjoy Visual Design while also keeping in mind the other aspects of this vast field that I have only begun to scrape at.
Letter to Myself:
To my past self: I want to let him know that I have finally decided to pursue what I was always hoping I would and I have made you proud. And to my future self: I hope I still get childishly excited over the new things I learn everyday. I also hope I am continuing to design to fulfill my selfish needs that we call the 'purpose of our life' while also trying to produce design that can be of help to any and everybody.
